Some of you have experienced the changes that were made in art last year. The desks have been moved and supplies are organized by media around the room. You'll notice more changes this year, too. But the physical layout isn't what's important. It's the way you experience the art room - it isn't just a regular classroom, this is your studio and you are the artist.
As the semester unfolds, I will open up different studio centers (drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, and others), teaching you skills and introducing you to new materials. Along the way you will spend time playing with and exploring the materials. I will present you with opportunities to create original art. As the artist, it will be your job "to have an art idea and find the best medium to express it, or, to use a material which leads to an idea." (Pauline Joseph) Don't worry... I'll be there to guide and encourage you along the way!
It's ok if you don't consider yourself a great artist, what is more important is your way of thinking. We will focus on Artistic Behaviors (things artists do) and Studio Habits of Mind (Develop Craft, Engage & Persist, Envision, Express, Observe, Reflect, Stretch & Explore, and Understand Art Worlds). Also remember that it's ok to fail!
Go Team.
