I only recently discovered Olivia Gude's Postmodern Principles. First, I was intrigued. Then, excited. Next, confused. Now I'm back to excited. A student recently told me that I have REF (Resting Excited Face), so it's not surprising that I am so excited about the Postmodern Principles. But what are the Postmodern Principles? Gude says that the traditional elements (line, color, value, shape, form, texture, space) and principles (balance, rhythm, movement, emphasis, proportion, variety, unity) are all good and well, but they are no longer adequate in describing our diverse and complex modern world or the unique art being created at this time. It's not that we don't need or can't use the traditional elements and principles, but the postmodern principles help to give us better insight into the artists point of view. | Mrs. Underhill's Resting Excited Face |
Here's some work in progress - check out all the different materials, techniques, processes and themes! So great to see the diversity within a single classroom.
