As an introduction to paint, Intro to 2D student created a landscape painting. Or a seascape. Or a cityscape. It would have been painfully dull to see 27 landscapes! You gotta have some variety! We started with painting boot camp - reviewing how to mix primary, secondary and intermediate colors, practicing tints, shades and intensities, playing around with different brushes to see marks made, and making mini still life paintings to practice color matching. Once we had a little practice, students were able to come up with their own composition. Students were required to show an understanding of space - must demonstrate foreground, middle ground and background and use a variety of techniques to show depth - overlapping, placement on the page, loss of color and detail, size change and possibly even linear perspective. Final artworks were all similar in that they demonstrated understanding of space and depth, but each artwork was original and unique. |
