Intro 3D students are making artworks about their personal identity. In this Art 1 class, most students have picked one of the teacher directed options to get them started this semester. Many students are creating a 3D letter of a first or last initial and are decorating with colors, words, images related to their personality. A few students are making wire and papier mache sculptures and a few others are doing something completely unique. It's been fun seeing students get into their work!
Painting students started the semester with the Artists Observe unit. We looked at some contemporary artists and traditional artists that use observation in their work. Students thought about what artists like to observe (people, nature, culture, politics, society...) and what they have observed in their lives. Some students are creating observational paintings of nature and people, some students are creating observational artworks with deep meaning - cliques in high school, the feeling of music and dance, basic human rights. A pair of students are creating a "mystery" artwork on the back of a puzzle that can be solved if the viewer is observant. We've had lots of good discussions in class about what's happening in our world and what happens if we don't pay attention to it.
